Abstract

1,268,277. Piles. RAYMOND INTERNATIONAL Inc. 31 Oct., 1969 [27 Nov., 1968], No. 53497/69. Heading E1H. To form a concrete pile in situ co-axial shells 12, 14 are first driven into the ground by a vibrator 20 while secured thereto by clamps 22. When the desired depth has been reached the clamps 22 are released, turned horizontally (with the vibrator) through 90‹ into alignment with a pair of diametrally-opposed slots 26 in the shell 14 and brought into engagement with the shell 12 so that the latter can be withdrawn to remove the earth core 33, if necessary the vibrator being operated gently to minimize friction between the shells. Subsequently the core is dumped by operating the vibrator vigorously, the shell 12 is replaced within the shell 14, concrete is poured into the shell 12, and finally both of the shells are extracted simultaneously with the aid of the vibrator and clamps. Operation of the vibrator during the final step not only reduces friction but also consolidates the concrete. The step of replacing the shell 12 within shell 14 may be omitted, the concrete being poured into the latter.
