Abstract
860,057. Burners. FOSTER WHEELER Ltd. April 15, 1959 [April 15, 1958], No. 12818/59. Class 75 (1). A burner burning liquid, gaseous or pulverized fuel comprises a burner nozzle 25 and two flared baffles 29, 31 arranged coaxially around the burner nozzle so as to form an annular air passage 33 between an air chamber 20 and a discharge opening around the burner nozzle, the outer baffle 31 being adjustably mounted so that the direction of the air from the passage 33 and hence the direction of the flame can be varied. The outer baffle 29 is welded at its forward end 30 to the burner nozzle 25. The inner baffle 31 is supported by four equal-spaced arms 35, the distal ends of which are pivotally connected to four adjustment assemblies 40 adapted to be actuated by four hand wheels 65. Each adjustment assembly 40 comprises a rod 52 threaded at both ends and supported in bearings provided in the burner structure. A sleeve 55 is welded to the rod 52 near its.inner end and has a tapered end 56 co-operating with a tapered inner surface of a nut 63 to form a seating for the rim of a hole in the baffle support arm 35. A pin 62a on the burner structure engages a slot in the rod 52 to prevent rotation of the rod. The hand wheel 65 is threaded on to the outer end of the rod 52 and is rotatively supported in a socket 67 forming part of a fixed plate 58. The fixed baffle 29 has vanes 34 for rotating the air. The air supply to the air chamber 20 is controlled by a valve 22. Pulverized fuel and air is fed through a pipe 27 to a volute section 26 leading to the burner nozzle 25.
