859,919. Shovelling machines. GRAY, E. T. Y. March 7, 1958 [Nov. 29; 1957], No. 37377/57. Class 68(1). [Also in Groups XXX and XXXII] A luffing boom attachment for a tractor comprises a sub-frame 1,8, adapted to be secured to the tractor chassis, and a pair of arms 12 detachably pivoted at 11 to the sub-frame so that they may extend either forwardly or rearwardly of the tractor. Hydraulic rams 13, controlling the movement of the arms 12, are detachably pivoted to the sub-frame at 14 when the arms extend forwardly, and at 10 when the arms extend rearwardly. The action of the rams 13 may be augmented over the initial range of upward movement of the arms 12, when the arms extend rearwardly, by direct engagement of the tractor lift links, Fig. 14 (not shown). A radiator guard 17 is provided which may be adjusted to serve as a ballast tray when the arms 12 extend rearwardly, a counterweight being attached to the tractor lift links when the arms extend forwardly. The specification describes how the invention can be applied to various well known makes of tractors, with implements 16 such as a fork, scoop, ditching attachment, hole driller or hedge trimmer. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 805,425.
