Abstract

859,614. Sliding windows. HALLAM, SLEIGH & CHESTON Ltd. Aug. 4, 1959 [Sept. 13, 1958], No. 29406/58. Class 20(3) In a sliding window assembly, more particularly for vehicles with vertically curved or inwardly sloping sides, in which the window 1 is lowered into a well when opened and is counterbalanced by spring means 7 acting on a lazy-tong mechanism 3, the mechanism is tiltably connected to enable it to fit into the sloping well. The top of the mechanism 3 is connected to an inverted channel member 5 formed at each end with an apertured flange 20 to receive with lateral play a screw threaded pin 22 which depends from the underside of the window 1 and retains in position a spring 23 which acts between the window and the flange. In a similar manner the lower end of the mechanism is connected to an attachment plate 19 fitted to the bottom of the well in a position horizontally offset from the plane of movement of the window. The springs deform to allow the mechanism to tilt when the window is opened. The deformable connection may be replaced at one end by a tilt permitting connection and the springs may be replaced by other deformable means e.g. resilient bushes or blocks.
