Abstract

1426673 Stays with braking devices KUHLER-UND METALLWARENFABRIK LEOPOLD FISCHER GmbH 16 May 1974 [25 July 1973] 21790/74 Heading E2F A stay, of the type in which a rod 4 is pivotally mounted at one end and slidably engages in a housing 8 pivoted at 7, is provided with a braking device comprising a member 18 which can roll within a tapered guideway defined by a wedge portion 17 of the housing and one side of the rod. As the rod slides in the closing direction it rolls the member 18 towards a more constricted portion of the guideway to brake movement. An adjustment screw 21 allows the extent of movement of the member 18 to be limited. A resilient plastics latch 22 engages a pin 24 on the rod to maintain an open position, the pin is shown resting on the top of the latch but may instead engage in slots beneath the latch. As shown the stay is connected between a piece of furniture 2 and an upwardly opening lid 1, but a modification (Figs. 4, 5, not shown) discloses the device used in connection with a downwardly opening lid. In this case the tapering of the guideway is reversed to provide maximum resistance on full extension of the rod. a pin through the end of the rod holds the lid open at full extension, and in the closed position a further pin bears against the end of resilient plastics or coil spring in such a way as to hold the lid closed.
