Class 103(2) A rear view mirror 12 adjustable from within a vehicle is mounted on the outer panel 16 of the vehicle door 18 by means of a support member 24 with a partspherical raised portion 26 formed to provide a ball portion 28 which engages a socket portion 36 formed on a support arm 34 for a mirror head 32. The head 32 is attached to the support member by a neck 38 on the arm 34 which extends through an opening 30 in the ball portion 28. The head 32 is retained there by a spring 44 within the portion 26 engaging a washer 46 secured to a shoulder 48 on the neck 38. A control rod 54 extends from a press fitting in the neck 38 through a hole 52 in the panel toward the inner door panel 58, through an elongated opening 60 therein and through a slot 70 in a guide plate 66. A friction bush 72 disposed about the end of the rod 54 and wholly within the plate 66 to assist in biasing the rod in a preselected position comprises a sleeve 74 which has flanges 76, 78 at opposite ends thereof and on opposite sides of the plate 66. The sleeve 74 has washers 80, 82 on opposite sides of the slot 70 and a spring 84 thereon between the washers acts against the flange 76 and against the washers to bias the flange 78 towards the slot 70. A knob 90 is secured to the rod 54 by a screw 92 in order to operate the mirror assembly. In a modification, the rod may have a kink which abuts a shoulder on the inner panel to prevent excessive rotation of the mirror.
