Abstract
859,462. Spade handles. DUPPENGIESSER, K. A. July 14,1959, No. 24098 /59. Class 61. A spade handle comprises a wooden hand grip 1, Fig. 2, with reduced end projection 15 engaged in sheet metal limbs 2 and secured in part by the non-availing configuration of apertures 11, Fig. 1, in the limbs 2. In one example S-shaped limbs 2 are slotted at 3 and crossed over at a welded joint 10 to provide a longer socket 9 for the wooden stem 16. Pressed out projections 6 are provided for attachment screws 8 in the region of the apertures 11. In another example the hand grip 1, Fig. 3, is, mounted between the limbs 17 of a U-shaped holding member having a sleeve 16 engaging the top of the spade stem. A second U-shaped holding member 14 has a sleeve 9 engaging the stem and has end projections 18 engageable with slots 12 in the end of the hand grip 1. In another example the hand grip is attached between limbs 13, Fig. 5, of a support which is generally U-shaped but is waisted at 19 for attachment by rivet 21 through a sleeve 20 at the top of the spade stem.
