Abstract

A rubbery copolymer of isobutylene and isoprene is masticated while incorporating therein water, powdered casein and an alkaline agent in a quantity sufficient to convert the casein to alkaline caseinate, and the paste obtained is then diluted with water to give an aqueous dispersion of the copolymer. Alkaline agents specified are sodium and potassium carbonates and borates and aqueous ammonia. Optional ingredients are natural and artificial resins, e.g. colophony, and phenol as stabilizer. The dispersions may be mixed with vegetable glues.ALSO:A vegetable glue, e.g. of gluten, maize, or starch, comprises at least 10% of an aqueous dispersoin of a rubbery copolymer of siobutylene and isoprene, the dispersion having been prepared by masticating the rubber while incorporating water, powdered casein and an alkaline agent and then adding further water to the paste obtained.
