Abstract
Fertilizing salts, e.g. sodium or potassium nitrate, are mixed with a small proportion (3-6 per cent) of an alginate to retard their solution. The alginate may be used in solution or as powder, which may be mixed with kieselguhr, french chalk, charcoal or other absorbent, or with rubber latex, gums, natural or artificial resins, and may be applied to the dry salt or to its solution. Up to 15 per cent of an alkali carbonate may also be added. Specified alginates are those of ammonium, calcium, iron, magnesium, alkali metals, copper, aluminium, zinc, silver, and nickel. Specifications 492,596 and 567,095, [both in Group I], are referred to.ALSO:Single or multiple fertilizing salts are mixed with a small proportion (3-6 per cent) of an alginate to retard their solution. The alginate may be used in solution or as powder, which may be mixed with kieselguhr, French chalk, charcoal or other absorbent, or with rubber latex, gums, natural or artificial resins. The alginate may be added to the dry fertilizing salt or to its solution. Up to 15 per cent of an alkali carbonate may also be added to the mixture. The product may be mixed with seeds before sowing or seeds may be sprayed with its solution. Specified alginates are those of ammonium, calcium, iron, magnesium, alkali metals, copper, aluminium, zinc, silver, and nickel. Specified fertilizers are sodium and potassium nitrate.
