Abstract

858,535. Stoppers. HOOPER, R. J. Jan. 14, 1957, No. 1412/57. Class 125(3). A dispensing device for a liquid or semi-liquid comprises a housing 2 containing the liquid, a hollow nose portion 4 and a valve member comprising a body portion 6 having a passage 6a therethrough, a stem 8 disposed coaxially with respect to the passage and a plurality of resiliently flexible arms 9 formed integrally with the stem and body portion to permit a limited axial movement of the stem relative to the body portion. The stem 8 is depressed to release liquid from the device via an opening 5 in the nose portion 4, normally closed by the end 10 of the stem 8. The body portion 6 is provided with a skirt 7 which on inserting the body member into the housing 2 fractures a frangible disc to release the contents thereof for dispensing through the orifice 5. In lieu of the flexible arms 9 the stem 8 may be secured to the body portion 6 by a resilient dome or diaphragm, apertures being provided either in the dome or diaphragm or through the walls of the body portion to allow the passage of the contents of the housing 2 into the nose portion 4.
