858,232. Control lever mechanisms. TELEFLEX PRODUCTS Ltd. Feb. 13, 1958 [Feb. 28, 1957], No. 6706/57. Class 136(1). In a mechanical remote control fitting for a multi-stranded flexible cable 49 having spaced helical projections on the exterior and adapted to be reciprocated in a guiding conduit, of the type including a two-part casing carrying a spindle 22 on which is mounted within the casing a toothed wheel 36 meshing with the helical turns of a portion of the cable which passes through the fitting and in operative connection with a handle 27 exterior to the casing for moving the cable in the conduit, the casing consists of a base 12 to which a co-extensive cover is attached, the base having rear surfaces 13, 14 disposed at an angle one to the other, to fit the dihedral angle into which the fitting is to be mounted, the axis of the spindle 22 being located in a plane which bisects this dihedral angle. The fitting is of symmetrical form, both longitudinally and laterally, about the centre of rotation, with its greatest width and depth at the centre which diminishes in a regular manner towards the two ends. The interior of the base 12 has two surfaces 17, 18 parallel to the outer surfaces 13, 14 and the co-extensive cover has plane bonding surfaces 30, 31 which contact the surfaces 17, 18 respectively when the parts are secured together. Two guiding channels 32, 33 are formed in the cover to hold the cable in meshing engagement with the handle-operated tooth wheel 36. As shown in Figs. 4, 5 and 7 each end of the base 12 and of the cover is shaped to receive a portion 41 of the square section guiding conduit for the cable. Keys 43 are provided to engage notches 42 in the conduits 41. The adjacent sections of guiding conduits 41, 64 are connected by coupling 66 of channel form having keys 67 at each end to engage notches 42, 65 in the conduits.. The parts are held in engagement by a sliding cover 69 which is of a springy nature. The coupling members may be used to secure the conduits in position as indicated at 73 (Fig. 1). As shown in Figs. 1 and 9 the fitting may be used to open and close two windows. For this purpose the conduit 48 in which the main cable 49 extending from the fitting 45 is caused to slide and which is connected to the window 50, is associated with another conduit 51 in which an auxiliary cable is caused to slide. The two cables are interconnected by a cable connector 52. As shown in Fig. 9 the projecting helices 60 of the cable 49 intermesh with the projecting helices 61 of the auxiliary cable 58 so that both windows 50 and 59 are simultaneously operated.
