1,028,327. Flexible shafts. FLEXIBLE SHAFT & COVER MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. Jan. 25, 1965 [Jan. 25, 1964], No. 3309/64. Heading F2U. In a flexible shaft having alternating right- and left-handed helically wound wire layers of which the outer layer L (Fig. 1, not shown) is wound in a direction to be tightened by the driving torque, an additional non-torque transmitting helical wire as strip H of opposite hand to the layer L and with open turns is wound over the layer L near the output end of the shaft to prevent excessive build-up of lubricant at this end of the shaft. The shaft may be used to drive a hand-tool or an immersion concrete vibrator.
