Abstract
Magnetic inks are prepared from 20-60% lithographic vehicle, 20-75% magnetic iron oxide, 0-20% of a toner and 0-15% of a surface active agent, all percentages being by weight. Lithographic vehicles specified include linseed modified phenol formaldehyde varnish, maleicalkyd varnish and pentareythritol alkyd varnish used either alone or admixed with linseed oil (see also Group XV). Acicular iron oxide is exemplified as a magnetic iron oxide to be used and suitable toners are carbon black, lamp black, alkali blue and iron blue. The preferred surface active agent is soya bean lecithin.
