Abstract
A composition used as a "carbon" coating in a "carbon" paper (see Division D2) comprises ethylcellulose, a ketonic resin, polyvinyl ethyl ether, liquid polyglycol, solid polyglycol and magnetic iron oxide. The ketonic resin is made by the alkaline condensation of cyclohexanone and methylcyclohexanone. The composition is applied as a solution in ethyl alcohol.ALSO:A carbon or duplicating paper in sheet or ribbon form comprises a carrier layer of synthetic plastics or recinous material and a colour layer comprising pigment, binder and softener. The binder is a mixture of a cellulose derivative (e.g. ethyl cellulose) and a synthetic resin, e.g. one made by the alkaline condensation of cyclohexanone and methyloyclohexanone. The ratio of pigment to binder is at least 2:1. The softener may also be a mixture, e.g. of polyvinyl ether and polyglycols, and the polyglycol may in turn be a mixture of liquid and solid polyglycol. The pigment is magnetic or may be a mixture of a magnetic pigment and soot black or milori blue.
