Abstract

Ferric stearate is prepared by adding an aqueous solution of one mol. of ferric sulphate to an aqueous solution of three mols of the sodium soap of commercial triple-pressed stearic acid. This acid has a melting point of 53 DEG C. and supposedly contains a minor amount of other fatty acids. The precipitate of ferric stearate is filtered off, washed separately with water and alcohol and dried at room temperature. It softens or melts in the range 70 to 95 DEG C. Specification 829,022 is referred to.ALSO:Ferric stearate is dispersed in a solution of nitrocellulose in a mixture of toluene and acetone by grinding in a ball mill. The product may be coated on to paper for use in a thermographic copying process (see Division G2). Ethylcellulose may be used in place of nitrocellulose. Specification 829,022 is referred to.ALSO:A carbon paper or typewriter ribbon comprises pyrogallol dispersed in a coloured wax composition and thinly coated on a paper or fabric carrier.
