Abstract
A coating composition for making carbon paper comprises 50-95% saturated and unsaturated fatty acid, 5-30% plasticizing oil, up to 10% metallic soap, 5-25% pigments, dyes and fillers and 0-20% wax which may be vegetable, e.g. carnauba, ouricury, candelilla or mineral, e.g. montan. Specified compositions contain 4% wax (unspecified), and 2% montan wax respectively.ALSO:A carbon paper comprises a carrier sheet, e.g. of paper having thereon a coating comprising 50 to 95% by weight of a fatty acid together with metallic soap, and a colouring agent. It may also contain an oil or a wax or both. The fatty acid may be saturated or unsaturated, examples are capric, lauric, myristic, palmitic, stearic and hydroxyctearic. Mixtures of fatty acids may be used including mixtures obtained from natural fats and oils and tall oils, or hydrogenated mixtures from such sources. The wax may be carnauba, ouricoury, candelilla or moutan. The oil may be isopropye palmitate, sperm oils, castor oil or naphtheric mineral oil. The soap may be aluminium, calcium potoicium lithium, or zinc stearate, or aluminium or zinc palmitate. The pigment may be carbon black or alkali blue.
