Abstract
857,736. Circuits employing bi-stable magnetic elements. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Oct. 23, 1958, No. 33932/58. Class 40 (9). To reduce the switching time of a core 1, the drive winding 2 is connected in series with a drive winding 5 on an auxiliary core 4. The cores and the windings are so dimensioned that the auxiliary core 4 switches first. As the auxiliary core reaches saturation after switching the current gradient is high and core 1 switches to produce a short output pulse. A sine wave input produces alternate positive and negative output pulses. The pulses of one sign may be removed. A number of cores may be connected in cascade so that they are switched successively on each flank of a sine wave. In a modification, cores 4 and 1 have different diameters and carry similar windings. An auxiliary core may be included in' a group of cores defining signal levels in the pulse coding system described in Specification 806,397.
