841,426. Circuits employing bi-stable magnetic elements. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. Aug. 24, 1956 [Aug. 25, 1955], No. 25994/56. Class 40 (9). [Also in Group XXXV] A magnetic core device suitable for performing logical functions comprises a magnetic core 5 in which a remanent flux may be set up in either direction and which is provided with an output winding 7 and two input windings 11 and 13 which link different parts of the magnetic circuit. As shown in Fig. 1, the two windings link the two branches provided by an aperture 9. Remanent flux is set up by pulsing both input windings, and if either winding is pulsed in the reverse direction there is no substantial output. If, however, both are pulsed in the reverse direction simultaneously the flux is reversed, providing a large output. The device thus behaves as an AND device. In Fig. 3, an OR device is disclosed having an input winding 15 to set the remanent flux, an output winding 15 and two sampling windings 21, 23 linking different parts of the core. The pulsing of either winding 21 or 23 affects the reluctance of the circuit and gives rise to an output pulse. Other embodiments where the sampling windings are differently arranged are also disclosed (Figs. 2 and 4, not shown).
