Abstract
842,713. Circuits employing bi-stable magnetic elements. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. Aug. 24, 1956 [Aug. 25, 1955], No. 25996/56. Class 40 (9). [Also in Group XXXV] The intensity of the remanent flux in a magnetic storage core 5 is the analogue of the pulse signal applied to input winding 7. The record is read in a non-destructive manner described in Specification 789,668. The voltage in output winding 9 constitutes a measure of the stored signal and may be used to control a voltage indicator 19 such as an oscilloscope. In Fig. 1, the input signal is provided by a battery 15, a rheostat 17 and a switch SW1. In Fig. 2 a constant battery 15 is switched to energize any one of three windings 7a, 7b, 7c, which embrace different proportions of the crosssection of the core. The battery is sufficient to saturate the part of the core linked with any winding to which it is connected. The core can thus be set to any one of three discrete stable states by means of the switch SSW. The windings may be used in combination to produce further states. In each embodiment, a battery 21 and a switch SW2 is used to reset the core before a storage operation.
