Abstract
904,503. Automatic - exchange systems. ERICSSON TELEPHONES Ltd. Dec. 23, 1958 [Jan. 2, 1958], No. 233/58. Class 40 (4). In a translator in which a wire representing the number to be translated is threaded through one core in each of a group of cores, each group is enabled in turn whereby the digits of the translation are emitted in succession. As shown, Fig. 1, each group of cores is provided with a control wire K1 . . . K4, energized when its associated flip-flop is in its normal state which occurs when it is fed by a train of pulses Q. When a control wire is energized it saturates each of its group of cores with magnetization of the same sense as would be produced by current through one of the threaded windings such as A, and consequently such a core produces no output on its winding U when a lead such as A is pulsed. However, between pairs of Q pulses the flip-flops F1 ... F4 are successively changed over to their second states by pulses P1 . . . P4 so that control leads K1 K4 are de-energized so that pulses on lead A are in turn transmitted to the output windings of cores 2, 4, 1, 6 in the respective groups. Instead the control wire may, when energized, drive the core well into saturation and the wires A may be provided with A.C. which is introduced into the output winding of a core whose control winding is not energized at the time. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 2, bistable saturable cores are provided, the control lead K1 . . . K4 being provided successively from gates G1 . . . G4 with half-set pulses. The threaded wires such as A are provided also with half-set pulses, so that each core, where these coincide, is fully set and produces an output on its winding U. The latter may be provided with a rectifier so that an output is provided either only on the setting or only on the resetting of the core which is effected immediately afterwards by a common pulsed reset winding. Alternatively the reset winding may be provided with continuous current, the core requiring the combined effects of current in a control winding and in an input winding such as A in order to overcome the reset current to a sufficient extent to set the core. In a further modification the reset lead is dispensed with, current from wire A being arranged to set one core in each group and the control wires are then pulsed in succession to restore the cores. Rectifiers in the core output leads ensure that an output is only obtained on the reset action.
