Abstract

857,646. Rubber mixing members; discharging doors. FARREL-BIRMINGHAM CO. Inc. Oct. 9, 1959 [Nov. 6, 1958], No. 34254/59. Class 86 In a rubber mixer and plasticizer of the Banbury type having a pair of kneading motors as at 12, the mixing chamber 10 has a discharge door 14 having an upper surface 16 shaped to complement the shape of the mixing chamber, and pivoted at 18 about an axis at right angles to the axis of the rotors. The door is actuated by a fluid-pressure cylinder 32 and is locked in the closed position by rollers 48 which are urged against the wear plate 24 by the cylinder 41. The door, with its actuating and locking mechanism, is carried as a unit on a frame comprising a base plate 21 and side plates 29, see Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), whereby it may be interposed between an existing mixing machine and its bed plate 28 to replace an existing door of different pattern.
