Abstract

755,069. Continuous-discharge mixing- machines. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER AKT.-GES. July 27, 1954 [July 27, 1953], No. 21963/54. Addition to 687,021. Class 86. Mixing and kneading machines described in the parent Specification are provided with cam plates which are of substantially equilateral triangle shape, each side of the triangle being an arc whose centre of curvature is the respective opposite corner of the plate. The cam plates 1, 1a, 1b, 1c and 2, 2a, 2b, 2c are arranged on shafts 4 and 5 respectively, the shafts being located in a casing 3 and spaced apart a distance approximately equal to the radius of said arc so that corresponding cam plates are almost in contact at their peripheries in any position to which the shafts may be rotated. Successive plates on each shaft are offset by about 30 degrees, the corners of the plates lying in helices so that rotation of the shafts in the same direction causes the material being mixed to advance through the casing. The three-sided shape of the cam plates provides that the volume of space containing the material being mixed remains constant during the rotation of the shafts, thus enabling the machine to be used for mixing dry and pulverulent material.
