Abstract

687,021. Mixing appliances. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER. Aug. 28, 1950 [Sept. 23, 1949], No. 21259/50. Class 86 A mixing and kneading machine comprises a casing having at least two rotatable shafts arranged so as to be driven at the same speed and in the same direction, each shaft having vertical adjoining cam protrusions each of which is angularly displaced with respect to the adjoining one, the circumference or corresponding cam protrusions on each shaft at least almost contacting in any position into which the shafts may be driven. The angle between adjoining cam protrusions determines the axial conveying velocity of the material through the casing. In Figs. 1 and 2 the cam protrusions are formed by lenticularly shaped members 4 which fit closely together on square shafts 2. The angle between adjoining members 4 is 90 degrees so that the conveying velocity is zero and the apparatus is used for discontinuous mixing. For continuous mixing the cam protrusions are arranged spirally along their shafts as in Figs. 6 and 7 in which the cams 4 are mounted on shafts 11, within a casing 8 having inlet 9 and outlet 10. Other shapes of cam protrusions described are shown in Figs. 10 and 15.
