Abstract

787,764. Mixing apparatus. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. June 22, 1956 [July 13, 1955], No. 20253/55. Class 86 A mixer, particularly for homogenizing thermoplastic material, comprises a mixing chamber disposed between a material feeding means, such as a screw 16 and an extrusion orifice 17, said mixing chamber being defined by inner and outer substantially cylindrical members 10, 14 one of which is adapted to be rotated and each having on its surface facing the other member a plurality of spaced teeth 12, 13, adjacent teeth of the two members being arranged to overlap radially and by the greater part of their length. The inner member 10 may be integral with the feeding screw 16, and the teeth 12, 13 are preferably disposed in alternating sets with each set having its teeth arranged symmetrically in a plane at right angles to the axis of the members 10, 14, the size and spacing of the teeth being such, Fig. 2, that the said members may be separated by relative axial movement. The mixer may be provided with heating and/or cooling means.
