774,651. Rubber-mixing machines; discharging-doors. FARREL-BIRMINGHAM CO., Inc. Aug. 24, 1955 [Sept. 1, 1954]. No. 24344/55. Class 86 A rubber mixer comprising bladed. rotors 12 rotating in a double-cylindrical mixing chamber 11 has a discharge opening 13 closed by a door 16 mounted on a supporting member 18. the member 18 being keyed to a shaft 20 which is rotatable by a hydromotor to swing the door into. and away from the closed position. In order that the bevelled surfaces 14, 15 of the opening and the door may fit tightly together the door is supported upon theupper flat surface 25 of the support 18 so as to permit relative movement between the door and support. To this end a plate 27 is disposed at the underside of the doorabove a similar plate 26 on the surface 25, a resilient rubber mat 28 being located between the plates. The door is yieldably held on to the support by bolts 30 on which are mounted compression springs 33, the bolts passing through holes 32 in the support with it small clearance which allows of a limited lateral movement of the door with respect to its support. The door is locked in the closed position by a bevelled key 42 which is advanced hydraulically to engage with rollers 40 mounted at the free edge of the support 18. The door is of hollow construction, the interior space 51 receiving a cooling or heating fluid which is supplied through a bore 52 in the shaft 20 and a conduit 53.
