Abstract
1349406 Comminuting-apparatus A STEPHAN U SÍHNE 7 July 1971 [8 July 1970] 31783/71 Heading A4C [Also in Divisions B1-B2] A comminuting-apparatus for foodstuffs comprises a first, preliminary comminuting device having a horizontal circular cylindrical drum 3 with a closeable lower outlet 11 and a closeable upper inlet, a plurality of tools (7), Fig.2 (not shown), each tool having both a cutting and a mixing action or some tools having a cutting action only and the others a mixing action only, mounted in the drum 3 and rotatable about an axis parallel to and spaced from the drum axis, a motor 25 for driving said tools, a closure 5 for the drum inlet and a closure 12 for the drum outlet, a motor 26 driving a conveyer vane (15) in the drum, and a second, fine comminuting device movable horizontally relative to the first device so that outlet 11 can be aligned with an inlet funnel 13 of the second device, and a motor 22 driving the tools of the second device. The conveyer vane is L-shaped and has scraping edges 16a, (18), Fig.2, (not shown) 19 scraping the inner surfaces of drum 3, the vane being rotated in the opposite direction to tools (7) when comminuting is being effected but rotating in the same direction to direct material through outlet 11 when this is opened by airoperation of a sliding closure 12. The drum inlet is closed by a hinged cover 5, operated by compressed air. The conveyor vane is centrally mounted on a hinged end door 4 of drum 3. An air tight seal 14 is provided between outlet 11 and inlet funnel 13 so that the apparatus can be subjected to vacuum or so that steam and/or liquids may be introduced. The drum 3 may be provided with a double wall for cooling and/or heating purposes allowing soft cheese, for example, to be manufactured in the pulveriser 1. Hoists (24) may be provided on opposed sides of the apparatus for loading the drum 3. The tools (7) are of equal length and are equispaced about the shaft (8) and may have a configuration producing movement of material in the drum 3 parallel to shaft (8), for example so that half of them produce movement in one direction and the other half produce an opposite movement.
