Abstract

<PICT:0856955/III/1> <PICT:0856955/III/2> An extrusion machine for making a reinforced tube from a sleeve of permeable material embedded in or lined with a plastic material comprises an extrusion head 2 with a passage terminating in an orifice 35, a mandrel 26, in the passage, with openings 40 and terminating in a portion 42 of smaller cross-section, clamping means 6, 7 outside the head 2 for locating the mandrel 26 in position, means 13 for pulling the sleeve T over the mandrel and through the orifice 35 and means for injecting plastic material into the passage so that it passes through the sleeve T and openings 40 to coat the interior of the sleeve T and form a reinforced tube 11. The orifice 35 may be larger than the sleeve T so that the sleeve may be embedded in the plastic material and the tube 11 may, while still plastic, be flattened by rollers 16, 17 to fuse into a solid reinforced strip C. The sleeve T is fed from a spool B and through a drying chamber 10 before entering the head 2. Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown) disclose a similar machine for embedding two concentric sleeves in the plastic material.
