638,101. Moulding collapsable tubes. SHELLMAR PRODUCTS CORPORATION. Oct. 3, 1947, No. 26644. Convention date, Feb. 15, 1943. [Class 87 (ii)'] [Also in Groups XVII and XXVIII] The body t of a collapsible tube is made of material e.g. viscose, cellulose acetate or cellulose nitrate which shrinks in drying, a space s being left between the nozzle flange 10 and the side wall t of the tube to allow for contraction without stressing the tube at the shoulder 11. Wet tubing for the body is slid on a former m, aided by air supplied through passages 15, 16, the end of the former m being recessed to receive the flange 10 and to provide an extension 12 for spacing the side wall t from the flange 10. The projecting end of the body t shrinks over the flange 10, and may be clamped thereagainst by a collar d, pips 24 which enter the ends of the passages 16 preventing the nozzle rotating whilst tightening the collar d. Fig. 1 shows a battery of formers mounted on tapered stems 17 connected to an air-line 20. Fig. 11 shows an alternative form of mandrel having additional air passages 21.
