Abstract

856,485. Floor polishers. SCHOTTLE, H. May 22, 1958, No. 16440/58. Class 138(1). [Also in Group XXVIIII] A combined polishing and suction cleaning unit comprising a brush 11 driven by a friction wheel 25 at one end 26 of a driven shaft 30 and located in a housing 8 having a suction inlet 16 discharging through a duct 15 in register with a duct 17 in a head 9 pivoted at a pin 14 to the housing 8 and carrying a dust bag 23 through the base 23<SP>1</SP> of which projects the shaft 30 is detachably secured to the open end of the casing 1 of a hand held motor-fan suction cleaner of the inside bag type (see Group XXVIII) after removal of the normal suction end cap and filler bag 37, 38, Fig. 2 (not shown) ; the inner end 33 of the shaft 30 being coupled to an adjacent end 3 of the motor shaft 2. As shown the friction wheel 25 is urged by a spring 28 against a lining 12 of the brush 11 but in a modification the brush is mounted to allow vertical movement and is urged against the wheel by pressure on the floor. The friction wheel may have a scraper.
