856,477. Making refrigerant evaporators. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. June 10, 1959 [June 30, 1958], No. 19854/59. Class 83 (2). [Also in Group XIII] A flat one-piece plate-like member, e.g. a roll-forged structure with fluid passages, is formed with three evaporator sections 34, 36, 46 interconnected by refrigerant passages 60, 64, 70, slits 76, 80, 82, 84 are formed to separate the sections, and then sections 34, 36 are each bent through 90 degrees so that they can be disposed at the top and bottom of the freezer compartment 22, the section 46 being disposed vertically in the storage compartment 24. The section 36 may be spaced from the top wall of compartment 22 to support ice-trays 40. A single connection 52 to the plate accommodates concentric restrictor and suction tubes 48, 50. In a modified form of plate, the evaporator sections for the freezer compartment are adapted to be disposed below the section for the storage compartment.
