542,070. Refrigerating. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. Nov. 1, 1940, No. 15988. Convention date, Nov. 1, 1939. [Class 29] A sheet metal evaporator comprising complementary plates with sinuous indentations 29 is formed with indentations providing two cylindrical header chambers 24, 25 connected by channels 26 at their ends, and the indentations 31 in the shelf portions 12, 13, at least on their upper surfaces, are trapezoidal in section so as to resist deformation by internal pressure and to preserve a flat surface for contact by ice trays, &c. The evaporator may therefore be made of thin gauge sheets of stainless steel, which is relatively non-conducting. One vertical wall 10 and the bottom 12 may have semicylindrical indentations in the outer face, and the other wall 11 and shelf 13 have both indentations trapezoidal, and a distributing channel 32 at right angles to the other indentations is connected by branches 33 to the conduits in parts 10, 12. A flange 14 of shelf part 13 is bent down and welded to the wall 10 and a hanger plate 16 is secured to the wall 11. Liquid is supplied at 34 to one of the channels in the plates and vapour is withdrawn at 36 from the upper part of the header.
