[Also in Groups XXIV and XXXIV] In a system for adjusting the vertical position of a top housing 3 carrying upper rolls (not shown) of a rolling or straightening mill, an adjustment nut 2 is lifted, to eliminate backlash when work enters the rolls, by the housing 3 which is upwardlyurged by a spring 6 bearing against a cap nut 4 carried on a threaded spindle 1. The spring compression is adjustable by means of the pot 8 and the nuts 2, 4 are locked together by bars 5 for mutual rotation, the spring compression remaining sensibly constant during adjustment movements of the housing 3.
