Abstract

[Also in Group XXV] A clip for suspension of sheet or slab heat insulation 11, 12 from a structural member 13 having a continuous tapered flange 14 presenting an outer face 15 lying in a plane, parallel to that of the adjacent surface of the insulation, comprises a sheet metal flange-engaging piece 16 having two limbs 17, 18 diverging from a bend of at least 135 degrees at an angle similar to the taper angle of the flange, there being at least one aperture in a portion of each limb adjacent the bend, the aperture in one limb being aligned with the corresponding aperture in the other limb, the alignment being so inclined that the axis of a bolt 22 passing through the apertures lies normal to the inner face of the flange or diverges away from the normal thereof in the direction away from the outer face of the flange, in. combination with a block 21 having the bolt 22 projecting from one of its surfaces at such an inclination as to permit the bolt to pass through the aligned apertures and when lightened to cause the limbs of the sheet metal piece to grip the flange with the block surface in contact with one of the limbs of the clip. As shown, the block 21 carries a continuous sheet engaging member 25 which encloses a hardwood strip 28 to which is fastened a cover strip 30. Where two members 13 are positioned back-to-back a flange 19 of the metal piece 16 is omitted. The central U-shaped section of the member 25 may be deeper to accommodate sheets of different thicknesses and the cover strip may be arcuate in shape. The invention is applicable to ships and/or cold storage chambers.
