855,718. Rot- and water-proofing textiles. CHEMISCHE WERKE WITTEN G.m.b.H. Dec. 11, 1958 [Dec. 23, 1957], No. 40023/58. Class 140. Cotton, rayon, jute, wool and other textiles are rot-proofed and waterproofed by treatment with a composition containing a mineral or vegetable wax, as waterproofing agent and 5- 15% of the weight of the agent of a chlorinated phenyl ester of a fatty acid of 6-12 C atoms having dissolved therein 1-5% of the weight of the agent of a chlorinated phenol. The latter preferably comprises pentachlorphenol or tetrachlorphenol or a mixture of such phenols, and the ester is preferably derived from the same phenols. The composition preferably contains an aluminium salt and is in the form of an aqueous emulsion. An example describes the addition of a mixed melt of paraffin wax, montan wax, pentachlorphenyl ester of fatty acids of 6-12 C atoms, and pentachlorphenol to a hot solution of size, and the further addition of aqueous aluminium triformate and acetic acid, to form a concentrate which is homogenized and foruse diluted to one fifth concentration. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 613,274.
