Abstract

[Also in Group XVII] A package for a surgical dressing (see Group XVII) comprises two sheets which are sealed face to face by narrow seams surrounding the contents, the meeting faces of the sheets being partially or wholly coated with a resin adhesive which will not become tacky below 230‹ F. and will not penetrate the paper lamina of the sheet on which it is carried to a depth greater than 90% of its thickness. The complete package may thus be heat sterilized without impairing the ready separation of the sheets by pulling apart for access to the contents. The resin may be of 5% di-octylphthalate and 95% of vinyl resin. Seaming may take place at 400-410‹ F. at a pressure of 40 1b/square inch for 1.25 seconds.
