855,248. Covers for resisting fluid pressure. JOHANSEN, D. B. L. Feb. 25, 1959 [Nov. 11, 1958], No. 6509/59. Class 123(1) A cover 2 for a hydraulic or pneumatic pressure cylinder 1 has a portion which projects into the cylinder and is provided with two grooves, a groove 3 receiving a sealing O-ring 4 and a groove 6 which, in the closed position of the cover, co-operates with a groove 5 in the cylinder wall to form an annular passage. The annular passage is filled by a row of balls 7 which lock the cover against axial displacement, the balls being introduced into or removed from the passage through a bore 8 closed by a screw 9 having a tapered end. Whilst the screw 9 is loose the cover may be turned to align the pressure fluid connection 10. When the screw is tightened its tapered end forces the balls against the passage sides and positively locks the cover against rotational and axial displacement.
