Abstract

854,848. Pneumatic thread tensioner. RUTI MACHINERY WORKS Ltd, [formerly HONEGGER, C.]. June 21, 1957 [June 22, 1956], No. 19623/57. Class 120 (2). In a pneumatic thread tensioning device of the kind in which the thread is caused to run between a fixed part and a tensioning plate seated over a suction opening connectable to a source of vacuum, the plate is in the form of a flat, thin diaphragm and the fixed part is provided with means having at least one thread guiding aperture below the plane of the plate seating surface. A plate 30 rests on the surface 24 of a fixed member 20 and an annular support member 23, and is held there by air pressure due to the partial vacuum in the opening. Thread 31 passes through a pig-tail guide 35 slightly lower than the level of the plate 30, between the surfaces 30, 24 and that of the support 23, and through a second pig-tail guide 35 attached to the first by a semicircular stirrup. A packing ring 21 ensures airtight contact between the member 20 and the base 11. A stirrup 32 is provided with its ends passing through apertures in the plate 30 and registering holes in the base 11 to prevent lateral movement of the plate 30. The plate is provided with another pair of holes so that the plate can be located differently on the base 11 to reduce wear. In a second embodiment the fixed member and base are formed integrally and the support member comprises two bars instead of an annulus. Instead of a stirrup passing through the plate, pins forming part of the pig-tail guide eyes are fixed in the base through apertures in the plate to secure it against lateral movement. In a further embodiment a spring-urged bellcrank lever at one end supports the thread and at the other rests under the plate so that excess thread tension causes it to pivot and lift the plate to relieve the tension. In this embodiment the plate is held against lateral movement by pins resting against the edges of the plate. In a further embodiment the lever is pivoted at one end and has the other end bifurcated, one part resting under the edge of the plate as before and the other carrying a pig-tail guide for the yarn. When increased yarn tension lifts the guide against the action of a spring, the plate is lifted as before to relieve the tension.
