371,217. Sewing-machines. FAIRWEATHER, W., 65, Chancery Lane, London.-(Singer Manufacturing Co. ; Elizabeth, New Jersey, U.S.A.) June 30, 1931, No. 18812. [Class 112.] Thread tensioning devices.-In th r e a d tension devices having a graduated scale 27 and co-operating indicator 35 to show the degree of tension applied to the thread, the usual torsion check spring 15 associated therewith is adjustable as to stress, being anchored at 16 to an arbor 8 which is angularly adjustable in a support 6 on the face-plate 1 of the machine, and the graduated scale 27 is carried on a member 26 which is angularly adjustable relatively to the arbor 8 so that it may always be in a readily visible position. The member 26 has a number of recesses 33 in its base any one of which may be engaged over a projection 32 on a disc 29 having a diametral portion anchored in a slot 31 in the arbor 8. The member 26 is pressed against the usual tension discs 24 by a spring 36 which is adjustably tensioned by a nut 37 bearing against a member 34 which telescopes into the member 26 and which carries the indicator 35. A release pin 39 is endwise movable in the arbor 8, to relieve the pressure of the spring 36 on the tension discs, by a cam on the presser-foot lifting lever.
