445,020. Sewing machines. SCHWEIGER, C. W., 8, Kaufingerstrasse, Munich, Germany. Nov. 26, 1935, No. 32722. [Class 112] The tension of the lower thread of a sewing machine is used as a means for auto - matically adjusting the tension of the upper thread to a corresponding degree. The lower thread a passes up through a hole b in the throat plate and is passed round the eye c of a lever e pivoted at d. According to the amount of tension on the thread a, the lever is swung about its pivot d against a plate f causing compression of the spring g. The compression of this spring governs the tension of the upper thread i between the discs h, h<1>. The swing of the lever e can be read on a scale m. The lever can be clamped in any position by the nut k. A nut o is provided for varying the tension of the upper thread independently of that of the lower thread. An additional tension spring may be placed between the nut o and disc h. The tension discs h, h<1> may have the usual automatic release, e.g. when the presser foot is raised.
