Abstract

854,709. Sleeve couplings: wire terminals. AMP Inc. Aug. 16, 1957 [Aug. 28, 1956; April 4, 1957], No. 25956/57. Class 38(1) Insulated or uninsulated wires ware connected together by a connector comprising a ferrule 16 having circular, or rectangular, holes 20 therein or grooves on the interior surface thereof and being either tubular, C-shaped, or formed in two semicircular halves, the ferrule being surrounded by an insulating sleeve formed in two telescoping parts 12, 14 and which is in turn surrounded by an outer metal sleeve 10. Crimping pressure is applied to the sleeve 10 so that the ends thereof are tapered down as shown in Fig. 4, thereby compressing the insulating sleeve inwardly, and the ferrule is compressed on to the wires, the edges of the holes 20 cutting through the insulation where provided. The ends of the insulating sleeve and the outer sleeve may be formed with a taper prior to crimping and the wires may be butt-jointed. In addition, the ferrule may be formed with a ring tongue and connected to a single wire to form a terminal connection.
