Abstract

854,317. Typewriters &c. GOY, A. June 14, 1957 [June 30, 1956], No. 18876/57. Class 100(4) In a proportional spacing mechanism the path of motion of the loose dog is coaxial with the axis of rotation of the escapement wheel. Escapement wheel 2, Fig. 1, is keyed to a shaft 4 which also carries a pinion 6 engaging a rack 5. Fixed dog 7 on a body 10 pivots on a pin 8 against a spring 9, and a loose dog 11 mounted on a body 13 pivots on a ball bearing 12 which aligns with the shaft 4. To ensure engagement of the teeth, the loose dog 11 is connected with the body 10 via a body 14, a spring 15, a roller 17 and a stop 16. When disengaged, the loose dog 11, urged by a spring 8, Fig. 2, moves round the escapement wheel until arrested by one of stop members 22-31, Fig. 3, which co-operate with a stop support 20, which slides in a slot 19, Fig. 2. Stop member @5. Fig. 3, corresponds to the spacing required or most of the characters, in this case four units of space, and is normally in the path of the stop support. If a bigger space is required the relevant stop member moves the stop member 25 out of the path of the stop support by lifting an arm 33 attached to the stop 25. Car- @ 21 Fig. 4, which holds stop members 22- 31 is slidable on studs 38 under control of a !ever 44, through linkages 39, 40, 43, to increase the space between successive letters by one, two, three or four units according to the setting of a lever 44. Hungarian Specification 142,252 is referred to.
