Abstract
The invention comprises compounds of the general formula : <FORM:0853293/IV(b)/1> wherein R1 represents hydrogen or an acyl group of less than 12 carbon atoms, and a process for their preparation by reacting the corresponding 2-unsubstituted androstane with ethyl formate and sodamide preferably in benzene and under nitrogen. Examples detail the preparation of the parent 17-ol and its acetate, propionate, cyclopentylpropionate and benzoate esters.
