Abstract
The invention comprises compounds of the general formula : <FORM:0853176/IV(b)/1> (wherein R is a hydrogen atom or a C1-5 alkyl group, and X is a hydrogen or halogen atom or a nitro, C1-4-alkyl or-alkoxy group), and the preparation thereof by condensing guanidine with an enol ether of the general formula : <FORM:0853176/IV(b)/2> (wherein Alk is lower alkyl group), which is made from the corresponding phenylmercaptoacetic ester through the phenylmercaptoacetamide and phenylmercaptoacetonitrile. The phenylmercaptoacetamides may be made by treating the corresponding ethyl phenylmercaptoacetate with saturated alcoholic ammonia containing a trace of sodium methoxide.ALSO:A pharmaceutical preparation contains a suitable carrier and one or more compounds of the general formula: <FORM:0853176/VI/1> (wherein R is a hydrogen atom or a C1-5 alkyl group, and X is a hydrogen or halogen atom or a nitro, C1-4alkyl-or-alkoxy group). It may be administered as an injectable solution or tablet, and has hypnotic and muscle relaxant activity.
