Abstract
853,144. Heat-insulation. MINIKAY Ltd. May 8, 1958 [April 18, 1957], No. 12673/57. Class 64(2) [Also in Group XXVIII] The insulation of a cold pipe-line 10, liquid containing cylinder or tank, contains a channel 24 and circumferential grooves 30, for collecting moisture, outside a vapour barrier 22 of bitumen compound. As shown, the pipe 10 carries a heat transfer element in the form of a longitudinal, metal fin 11 and the water-collecting channel 24 below this communicates with the exterior of the insulation 14 by axiallyspaced conduits 26. The grooves 30 opening into the channel enable moisture in the interior of the insulation to move around the layer 28 of the insulation and condense on the fin 11. At predetermined times the temperature of the pipe is caused to rise above the freezing point to melt ice deposited on the fin, e.g. an electric heating element, comprising an insulated cable clipped to the fin, may be located in the channel 24.
