Abstract

[Also in Group XIII] A heat-exchanger plate is sealed around its periphery to a tank wall and the space between the plate and the tank within the area bounded by the seal is then evacuated so securing the plate to the tank wall. The seal may be effected by use of a sealing strip or an adhesive. In a modification the space bounded by the marginal seal may be subdivided by additional seals extending across the plate and each subdivided space is then evacuated separately. The inner face of the plate may have grooves therein leading to suction valves provided on the outer face of the plate. The heat-exchanger plates may be of the kind described in Specification 826,624 and the invention may be used either to supplement or to replace the mechanical securing means described in that Specification.
