Abstract

1,273,139. Plate heat exchangers. SERCK RADIATORS Ltd. 4 Sept., 1969 [24 Sept., 1968], No. 45238/68. Addition to 1,035,170. Heading F4S. The sealing member 11 described in the parent Specification is modified by the addition of a portion 10 integral with and less resilient than the sealing portion of the member 11. The portion 10 serves as the spacing means between adjacent plates and has grooves 15 therein through which any fluid leaking past the seal from the plate interspace may escape. The spacer portion 10 of the member 11 may be made of hard rubber, and may be reinforced by metal inserts (116, Fig. 2). The arrangement enables the plate edges to be simplified (as shown) as compared with the construction in parent Specification. The sealing groove 13 in the sealing portion 11 may be modified by providing an additional lip (Fig. 4) similar and opposite to the lip 12.
