Abstract

1298240 Plate heat exchangers APV CO Ltd 13 Oct 1971 [21 Oct 1970] 49991/70 Heading F4S In a plate heat exchanger comprising a pack of gasketted plates 7, each plate is provided with a localized projection co-operating with a corresponding recess or opening in an adjacent plate or in an end member 4 of the pack to limit movement of individual plates in their own planes. Preferably the projections are located outside the flow space areas defined by the plate gasket. As shown, the projections are formed as hollow bosses 10 pressed from the plate material, each boss projecting from one face of the plate and defining on the other side of the plate an opening or recess 10a. In the assembled pack each boss is disposed with a clearance X in the opening or recess 10a of an adjacent plate, the boss of the first plate of the pack projecting into a recess 11 formed in the end member 4. At the other end of the pack the end plate may have an additional and oppositely facing boss for projecting into a corresponding recess formed in the end member at that end of the pack. The projections may alternatively take the form of tangs.
