[Also in Group XIII] In an element in which the thermal expansion of liquid or of low melting point solid such as wax e compresses a rubber body c to force out a plunger f to actuate a switch in response to the temperature of a fluid, there is either a second actuated plunger as in Fig. 3 or an adjustable screw plug f 1 , Figs. 2, 4, by which the extent to which the plunger f is moved by the expansion is adjusted. Instead of the plugs f 1 shown in Figs. 2 and 4, there may be second plungers f in those forms of element. In Fig. 2, end flanges d on the rubber body c are clamped between the element casing and its end caps. The plunger f may have a radiused instead of a conical end. In Fig. 3, the element casing is in two interholding parts which grip together two halves of a rubber body c to enclose the wax e. One of the plungers f may be replaced by a screwed plug f 1 In Fig. 4 there are one or two springs i for taking up excess expansion of the wax e and these are supported on a plate k which normally rests on a flange of the casing.
