Abstract

852,206. Nuclear reactors. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. April 20, 1959 [April 24, 1958], No. 12993/58. Drawings to Specification. Class 39(4). In a gas-cooled nuclear reactor of the type described in Specification 36774/56, the vertically arranged core fuel elements and reflector blocks are urged together by the cooling gas pressure and are mounted on pivots at their lower ends. To permit the fuel elements to be lifted from the core the inward radial pressure of the reflector blocks upon the core is removed by pneumatic jacks which, when energised, displace the upper ends of the reflector blocks radially outwards away from the core.
