Abstract

852,074. Photographic colour materials. KODAK Ltd. Oct. 11, 1956 [Oct. 12, 1955], No. 34253/58. Divided out of 852,067. Class 98(2) A photographic silver halide emulsion containing a colour coupler contains as anti-fogging or anti-stain agent a bis (s-triazin-2-ylamino) stilbene of the formula: wherein D and D1 are s-triazin-2-yl nuclei and R4 and R5 are H or water solubilizing groups such as sulpho or carboxyl, or alkali metal, ammonium or amine salts thereof. The triazinyl nuclei may be substituted in the 4- and/or 6- positions by hydroxy, aryloxy, substituted aryloxy, alkoxy, heterocyclic, alkylthio, arylthio, heterocyclothio, amino, alkylamino, hydroxyalkylamino, sulphoalkylamino, cycloalkylamino, arylamino; substituted arylamino or heterocyclylamino groups or by halogen atoms. A list of suitable s-triazine compounds is given including ones wherein the triazine nuclei have a 4-[4<1>-(N<1>-4<11>- sulphobenzyl-N 1-ethyl)amino-anilino] or 4-[4<1>(5<11>- keto-3<1><1>-methyl-2<1> <1>-pyrazolin-1 <11>-yl)-anilino]substituent. The triazinyl compounds are described in Specifications 595,065, 623,849, 624,051,624,052, 678, 291, 681,642, 705,406 and 852,067, and U.S.A. Specifications 2,171,427, 2,473,475, 2,595,030 and 2,660,578. Such compounds are sold under the trade names of "Calcofluor White" and "Blancofor" and under the Registered Trade Marks "Leucophor", "Tinopal" and "Hiltamine". Couplers specified for use in the invention are those in Specifications 541,589, 660,012, 674,161 and 783,730, and certain couplers in Specifications 545,448, 627,814, 649,660, 680,488, 736,922, 739,913 and 791,219. Specifications 513,170, 581,772, 852,066, 852,068, 852,069 and 852,075 also are referred to.
